Candidate for President

Rodney Diverlus

Rodney Diverlus is a 3rd year Performance Dance student and running for President. Rodney has served two consecutive terms as Vice-President Equity for the Ryerson Students’ Union. As the first ever Vice-President Equity, Rodney has been a strong advocate for social justice, and for a university environment that is inclusive for everyone.

During his two terms, he created the first ever equity training for O-week leaders, successfully lobbied for the creation of the Multifaith Centre, hosted Ryerson’s first disOrientation and Xpressions Against Oppression Week and helped launch the Sexual Assault Survivor Support Line.

Before being Vice-President Equity, Rodney was the Vice-President Internal for Ryerson Residence Council and the Vice-President Education for the Ryerson Theatre School Students’ Union. He is currently serving his second term as Queer and Trans Commissioner for the Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario, representing the voices of queer and trans students across the province.

Candidate for Vice-President Education

Melissa Palermo

Melissa Palermo is a 3rd year New Media student who is excited to seek re-election as your Vice President Education of the Ryerson Students’ Union. In her current role as Vice President Education, Melissa has mobilized students to call for more affordable education. This past summer, when changes were made to the Work Study program making many students ineligible, Melissa lobbied administration to make these changes fairer. If re-elected she will continue to lobby for Work Study reform.

In the October 6th provincial election she worked with students across the province to successfully make post-secondary education an issue and called on students to make education a priority when heading to the ballot box. She also mobilized students around the Drop Fees campaign, collecting 9,500 signatures from students who support reducing tuition fees, and is working to organize a large Ryerson contingent of students to take part in the National Student Day of Action on February 1st. With students in Ontario paying the highest tuition fees in the country; it’s now more important than ever to elect a strong representative who believes in accessible post-secondary education.

If elected, Melissa will lobby for the elimination of the $70 deferral fee charges to students who pay their tuition fees in two installments, and continue working with students across the province and the country  to fight for an accessible & affordable system of post-secondary education.

Candidate for Vice-President Equity

Marwa Hamad

Marwa Hamad is a 4thyear Journalism student who is passionate about issues of equity and inclusivity, and would love to represent you as the next VP Equity of the Ryerson Students’ Union. Marwa has organized with the equity service groups to create a safe and inclusive campus, especially for those who face form discrimination. As a staff member with Students Against Racism, she was at the forefront of “I’m not racist, but…” campaign and organized forums and interactive events for students who face marginalization.

If elected, Marwa will fight for Equity &  Inclusion statements to be included in Course Syllabi.

Candidate for Vice-President Operations

Andrew McAllister

Andrew McAllister is a 4th year Performance Production student running to represent you as VP Operations of the Ryerson Students’ Union. Andrew is involved in the Close Gould Street and Bottle Water Free campaigns.  As a two-time FCAD representative on the board, Andrew expanded the student art exhibit in Oakham Café and improved lounge space in the Student Centre.

If elected, Andrew will expand discounted tickets, lobby the TTC for an affordable metropass and host a more accessible Parade & Picnic at the Ryerson Gardens.

Candidate for Vice-President Student Life & Events

Ifaz Iqbal

Ifaz Iqbal is a 3rd year Business student and running for Vp Student Life and Events. Ifaz is currently a Faculty Director for the Ted Rogers School of Management and the Events and Entertainment Commissioner for the RSU. He is on the executive board as a marketing director for the BSA and has actively been involved with various student groups.

Ifaz has always been passionate about events and student movements. Since his first year in University as an International student he understood the need for student life on campus and the need for events to make the Ryerson community  closer by bringing everyone together for events. In his last term on the board he has actively helped the RSU with events throughout the year.

If elected , Ifaz wants to improve the size and quality of the Parade & Picnic, as well as better support campus groups by creating workshops and give them more tools to communicate with their membership.
